Pisgah Legal Services provides free civil assistance to people living in poverty and helps the most vulnerable people in the community meet urgent needs such as housing, security from abuse, health care and income. The Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyer Program (MAVL) requires volunteer lawyers to contribute at least 50 hours pro bono per year.

MAVL selects the types of cases to be accepted and conducts initial interviews so that the lawyer can review the proposed referral before determining whether it will be accepted. All clients referred through MAVL are pre-screened for financial eligibility and case priority. 1.
